How to put on shoe correctly?
Proper shoe-fitting technique is crucial for children or adults with flexible flat feet. If the heel is not seated firmly at the back or the laces are loose, the foot will slide forward, preventing the shoe's built-in arch support from aligning correctly with the foot joints.
Follow these 4 simple steps demonstrated in the video clips to ensure maximum stability and support:
Step 1: Loosen the Laces Completely
Fully loosen the laces from top to bottom so the shoe opens up widely. Never force or jam the heel into a shoe that is still tied, as this damages the structural heel counter and prevents correct foot positioning.
Step 2: Slip in the Foot & Tap the Heel Back
Once the foot is inside, gently tap the heel against the floor or step a few times. This ensures the heel rests securely against the back of the shoe, locking the hindfoot in place before securing the upper.
Step 3: Center the Shoe Tongue
Pull the tongue straight up and center it in the middle of the instep. A straight tongue prevents uneven pressure, friction, or irritation across the top of the foot.
Step 4: Tighten Eyelet-by-Eyelet & Tie Securely
Starting from the eyelets closest to the toes, pull each section of the shoelaces snug sequentially up to the top ankle eyelets. Tie a firm double knot so the midfoot remains locked without sliding while walking or running.
Tapping the heel back and tightening laces sequentially locks the hindfoot securely against the heel cup, ensuring the shoe's internal arch support aligns perfectly with your joints.
With the shoe put on correctly, there is one final check to perform: verifying that your child or you have the ideal footwear size.
